The Apple Watch is a stylish and versatile wrist accessory, but what sets it apart from other watches is the customisation you have with Apple Watch bands. As well as the official bands that Apple sell online and from their physical stores, you can purchase any number of designer Apple Watch bands online.
The Blakemoor collection is second to none, with a stunningly diverse range to choose from. Apple Watch bands come in a variety of sizes too, depending on the device you’re wearing. So, how do you figure out your band size? Or, how many Apple Watch band sizes are there? Find out the answers to these questions, and more, in this unique guide from Blakemoor.
Are all Apple Watch bands the same size?
The simple answer to this question is no. Due to the variety of Apple Watches on the market, currently, there are seven different sizes of Apple Watch bands to choose from. They are:
The 45mm and 41mm bands were only introduced to the market in September 2022 when the Apple Watch Series 7 was released, showcasing a larger screen. It increased by 1mm from the Series 6, which was available in 40mm and 44mm. At the same time, the Apple Watch Ultra became available, offering users a much stronger battery with greater performance for diving and exploring. However, despite the larger screen, previous-size watch bands were compatible.

How do I know if my Apple Watch is 40mm or 44mm?
If you’ve found a new Apple Watch band that you’d like to purchase but you’re unsure of the size of your device, there are a few ways in which you can gather the information. Here’s how:
- Check the back of the Apple Watch
- Use the Apple Watch app
- Use a ruler
- Compare to another Apple Watch
Check the back of the Apple Watch
A lot of people are unlikely to know this information because how many people look at the back of their device in detail? If you take off your watch and look closely at the back, you’ll see writing around the sensor. Here, you’ll find the exact size of your Apple Watch, as well as other information. Once you know, you’re clear to buy a designer Apple Watch band from Blakemoor, like the Kingston or Magnetic Loop.
Use the Apple Watch app
Another useful way of finding out the size of your Apple Watch is to use the app on your paired iPhone. First of all, head to the Apple Watch app and click ‘General’. In the ‘About’ section, you’ll see a lot of information like storage capacity, the OS it’s currently running, and so on. The information you’re looking for here is the ‘Model Number’. Copy that code and enter it into a search engine. Your exact device will appear, giving you all the information you need, including the size.
Use a ruler
Of course, another option is to use a ruler. If you’re trying to distinguish whether your Apple Watch is 44mm or 45mm, this isn’t the best option. However, if you’re wondering if it’s a 44mm or a 40mm, a ruler can show you a more accurate reading.
Compare to another Apple Watch
Finally, you can always compare it to another Apple Watch. Whether you’re in the Apple store or you have a family or friend with a different-sized watch, you can always compare yours to theirs and see if it’s bigger or smaller. Of course, this is unlikely to produce an exact measurement in terms of millimetres, but you’ll get a rough idea of the size when compared to another model.
How to measure wrist size for an Apple Watch band
Knowing the size of your Apple Watch and the size of your wrist are two different things. The Apple Watch band size is available in six different widths to fit your device. However, everybody is different and all of our wrists are too, so you’ll need to order the right size band, in length, for you. How do you measure your wrist to ensure you purchase the ideal band, though? Here’s how:
- Using a flexible measuring tape, wrap it around your wrist, just above the bone. You can also use a piece of string for this.
- Mark on the measuring tape, either with a pen or your finger, where the two pieces of tape meet. If you’re using a string, do the same and then measure the length with a ruler.
- Now that you have the circumference of your wrist in millimetres, you can use the measurement to choose the right-sized Apple Watch band.
